I am so happy that Karen and Coby Kriegshauser recommended Mark Venegas and ABC realty.  It is so difficult to purchase a property when living so far away.  Mark answered all of my emails in a timely manner and went above and beyond helping me since I could not do everything in person.  I relied on Mark to arrange a day of property showings, make arrangements with an attorney, and provide me with every bit of information I needed.  Since Mark was so diligent in showing properties that I would like and could afford, I felt very comfortable asking his opinion.  Much of our time on this transaction was conducted via email from Costa Rica to Australia where I was on vacation.  I would recommend Mark and ABC to anyone wanting to make a purchase in Costa Rica.

OK, the experiance we had was great. Our agent was the best, he made everything as easy as possible and went out of his way to get copies of  documents that were needed and to keep us in the loop as the timeline progressed. The selection of "----" made things even more comfortable. Federico worked thru some serious personal issues and still handled the sales process professionally. Jogi who filled in for Federico during the actual transaction gave us the moral support that put us over the top.
The down side of the transaction was the delays in getting some of the documentation from "-----", the sales break down sheet didn't arrive until the night before. The other problem occured after the transaction was complete. We received a urgent message from Juan Carlos that that the Corporate books were required with our signature. We got this message after we had disolved our corporation and we checking into our hotel at the airport in San Jose. I would suggest using a checklist for all the requirements. Overall, we were very pleased with everything and we would use and recommend ABC in the future.

We bought two properties via ABC in 2003 and their internationally diverse group was very helpful in understanding what was going on in Tamarindo and Guanacaste in general. They really know how things work and don't work in this environment. Yet they were very professional about saying "We can't answer that" when a question went outside their area of familiarity. There was no bluffing. I think ABC is a good agency both for home-seekers and developers.
Then in 2011 we put ABC to the test with a very challenging real estate sale. We had moved out of Costa Rica and our remaining property was in a bad state - plus squatters had moved in. Jogi at ABC had some helpful suggestions about the squatters - a situation with no good remedy. We initially rejected a low offer and ABC then persevered and got us an offer we were happy with. With the squatters and other complications, it took an entire year and massive patience and negotiation to finally close the sale. Jogi was totally professional throughout, month after month. Many others would have just blown up, or given up in frustration. Jogi had to shepherd our deal for 12 months. If you are looking for a broker who is extremely knowledgeable--and honest about which situations have answers and which ones don't, then definitely call ABC. I think ABC has an advantage in addressing European buyers - which is important these days. If you require a broker with great patience and maturity, who thinks through each situation carefully, or if the deal is complex, talk to Jogi.
