Throughout the years Tamarindo has grown to be known for its beautiful beach, world-class surf, friendly people, beautiful Condos, Homes & Hotels, and generally a fun place to live, or visit. And when describing the multiple amenities Tamarindo has to offer such as; shops, markets, banks, high speed internet, gyms, spas, tours, etc., you can’t leave out all the great places to eat there are here. I’ve always wondered how many options there really are, so I went out to see and counted them.

Help Shape Tamarindo!

In a mixed community such as Tamarindo, where a wide diversity of nations and cultures coexist, reconciling opinions on local issues is complex. However, the respect for opinions and the guarantee of a polite and harmonious coexistence must prevail, as a reflection of the democratic society in which this community lives.

This is the vision of the Integral Development Association of Tamarindo (ADIT) who have organized a procedure for residents to express their opinions regarding community issues.

Get ready because next month the Tamarindo Art Foundation, a non-profit NGO with big objectives and goals for the community, will be planning and hosting this year’s Tamarindo Art Wave. A festival that presents the works of various talented artists for viewing and in some cases personal participation and will be taken place on November 29-December3. The exciting theme chosen for this year is En-Light.

Costa Rica is scoring high as the country to relocate or have a sabbatical, and some obvious reasons for this are the climate, with many hours of sunshine, the political and social stability and the “Pura Vida” lifestyle. Costa Rica has twelve distinct climate zones so whoever plans on living in this natural gem for a shorter or longer period, wisely explores the different climate zones before committing to a spot.
Those who are making the move with a family, will for sure not only consider the climate but also take into account the opportunities that the area offers to their little ones, opportunities to grow, to learn, to develop skills, to play, to socialize with other children and to explore in general.
We will all agree that Costa Rica, with its national parks and preserves, and its abundant fauna and flora offers more than a standard classroom or playground setting in Europe or North-America will ever be able to. Resources for hands-on learning on the field, such as estuary mangrove mapping, ocean and river mobile lab study, nature walks and beach cleaning projects are abundant. Not to forget the mere studying of the green iguana in the backyard and observing marine life in the tide pools at the beach.
Above that, the wider Tamarindo area has developed further in infrastructure and activities for youngsters than other areas in Costa Rica. The region has seen a steady influx of families from Europe, North- and Latin America over the last years, and the area has grown and adapted to the needs of the young ones increasingly. This is noticed by many newcomers and is a main reason why they choose the wider Tamarindo area to settle down.

Towns and communities just about everywhere encounter at some point difficulties to organize and execute projects to better the infrastructure and the living in their piece of the world, and Tamarindo is not the exception. Throughout the years, here in Tamarindo, different Boards of the ADIT (Asociación de Desarrollo Integral de Tamarindo, or Tamarindo Community Development Association) have made attempts, with various levels of success, to do just that. The current Board members were elected in June, 2016 and it is headed by Urs Schmid, manager of Hotel Capitán Suizo. They are all working as volunteers to improve our town’s infrastructure and help maintain responsible growth, are proving to be well organized and have been hard working in tackling multiple projects like; Lifeguards, Recycling, Beach Cleaning, Langosta Road, Security, Oneida Park cleaning and restoration, etc.
