It takes a manufacturer a fraction of a second to create a plastic bag, we use it for 20 minutes to get our products from the store to the house, then it takes over 100 years for it to disappear completely.
There are many other alternative substitutes for plastic that work great and are very accessible.
Various hotels and restaurants in Tamarindo and the surrounding area, for example, have now replaced their plastic straws with paper-based straws. These might be small changes, but little by little we will have a positive impact on our beautiful beaches and towns we care about so much.
The Clean Wave, a non-profit organization based in Tamarindo, has been working for quite some time to keep the beaches clean and they also take time to educate locals and volunteers on how to take care of your town.
For many years the SURFRIDER organization does a wonderful job as well as several other groups and individuals like the ASADA Tamarindo and of course ADI Tamarindo. They all care about Tamarindo and the surrounding area.
Let’s all make the effort together to keep Tamarindo and the surrounding beaches and towns clean, consciously healthy, and a leading example for all Guanacaste and Costa Rica!
