We have been coming to Tamarindo for several years, but it was not until now that we decided to make a purchase.  A dear friend and a local resident recommended Jogi and his team at ABC Costa Rica Real Estate.  From the very start we were very impressed.  He keeps encyclopedic records of almost every property, owner, quality of construction, etc. in the entire area. Since he has lived in Tamarindo for more than 20 years, he knows everyone and is highly respected in the community.

Upon our retirement we elected this amazing part of the world to build and dwell in our amazing home known as Casa de Gracia.We have elected to return to the states to be closer to our daughters after nearly three years and other family members. While living here we have learned that it takes 2-3 years to sell if not more . Selecting the best agency to help our efficient sale was very critical for us.We did solicit various input from friends , professionals, builders, neighbors, real estate agents and the consensus after sorting through objective input was ABC. I was given the name Jogi as he was the principle. I elected to stop by one late Friday afternoon about five minutes after closing time and the only person that was there at the time was Federico . I introduced my self and communicated him my full name and asked him about The owner who was on vacation in Germany for few more weeks. I told him that we are interested in selling our home and to the possibility of listing with them. Federico was willing to help in anyway he can and gave me his business card and of the owner. I thanked and walked out . Ten steps later l turned around and knocked on the door again and Federico opened the door and l said just one question , what is my first name? Without any hesitation Federico responded , Waleed ! He did not look at any notes and was sharp on his feet. Normally people struggle with my name few times. I smiled and said he will hear from me.That positive encounter with Federico coupled with various endorsements they have earned made our decision easy . I respect my gut instincts so we went with ABC and Federico. The firm has a sales staff of various nationalities and exposures to N America and Europe and work very well with many agents and other Real Estate companies.Federico was always a pleasure to deal with . He is intelligent, educated, great communicator, professionnal, personable, a good family man, and a settle kind easy salesperson . He has earned our admiration and respect and was able to trust him fully. Selling our home in just 6 months was an amazing accomplishment and closing on it within 8 months was music to my wife’s ears.Other agencies wanted to offer our house for less $ than it costed us to build and seem that they did not care if we lost $ or not as long as they were able to sell and get their commission. Although I’ve been a professional real estate investor for almost four decades, it is rare when I find myself on the selling end of a transaction (I’m a long-term hold guy). I wanted to truly thank you for all your help with the purchase of the commercial lot in Huacas.First, I can’t believe you found this property for us. After searching ourselves for months all I did was finally break down and ask you for your help (because I didn’t want to bother you with such a small lot) and the next morning you had lined up properties that we didn’t even know were for sale – and others that technically were not for sale but were worth pursuing. And then we ended up with a property that wasn’t listed for sale and you managed to get this for us at a price that was too good to be true. Federico was a lucky meeting for us as we had already been looking for property for quite some time in the Tamarindo/Langosta area when we met him. My experience buying property in Tamarindo with ABC and in particular with Jogi was 5 star.I had a v very short time frame to realize this operation and appreciated very much the fact that Jogi was on his game, had all the information readily available and was always reachable (inclusive weekends).Jogi is very knwoleadgable about the market and market pricers so we could quickly establish fair market prices.His advice was priceless and saved me a whole lot of money by advising on a price offer and then negotiating this with the sellers.I cannot think of any hiccups or anything that could have done better.In short Jogi presented me an opportunity, we made an offer, went into escrow and less then 4 weeks later we closed ! Jogi found us an unbelievable deal on a piece of prime real estate in Tamarindo. Not only that, but he then facilitated the purchase of our lot, which was easy and smooth and we closed in a little over one week! In general we had a great experience. We were looking for a lot or house to buy and ended up with a very nice lot in Tamarindo with the help of Jogi. What we liked most was that Jogi was very commited through the whole process. Yes absolutely, I would deal again with ABC or recommend them to others in the future.

The process was very simple and straight forward. Federico made the process extremely easy. It was, in fact, easier than buying property in the United States. Federico went above and beyond what I am accoustomed to real estate agents doing. He made it so easy and pleasant. One item I still think is important, but not a business practice in Tamarindo, is the MLS (Multiple Listing Concept) with all brokerage companies. The customer may think they are looking at all available houses, but they are not. Each companies listings are way to guarded from other brokers. Choosing a real estate agent in Costa Rica is a lot like selecting a surgeon for a hip replacement. You want a veteran surgeon who has done thousands of successful surgeries, not an intern that’s going to “learn” on you. You want a surgeon that all the anesthesiologists say is “gifted” not just good. And at the end of the day you want the guy that’s going to improve your health, not ruin it with complications. Buying, or selling, real estate in Costa Rica can be a good or bad experience based on the real estate agency you choose. You want someone that’s been around the block, SEVERAL TIMES, someone who really knows the market, knows the players, knows which properties to avoid and which ones to consider. In short, you can’t go wrong with ABC. I brought my family down to Tamarindo for a year before deciding to purchase property down here. Over the course of the year I got a lot of positive feedback from people in the area saying ABC was a good company to do business with, which is why I chose them. Jogi knows the area really well. I had been trying to sell my lot in Palm Beach Estates, Playa Grande for quite some time, but with no luck. I listed with Federico J. We first dealt with Juergen Gerner (Jogi) in September, 1998 when we used his services to purchase our condo at Villas Langosta on Playa Langosta in Costa Rica. OK, the experiance we had was great. Our agent was the best, he made everything as easy as possible and went out of his way to get copies of documents that were needed and to keep us in the loop as the timeline progressed. The selection of “—-” made things even more comfortable. Federico worked thru some serious personal issues and still handled the sales process professionally. Jogi who filled in for Federico during the actual transaction gave us the moral support that put us over the top.The down side of the transaction was the delays in getting some of the documentation from “—–“, the sales break down sheet didn’t arrive until the night before. The other problem occured after the transaction was complete. We received a urgent message from Juan Carlos that that the Corporate books were required with our signature. We got this message after we had disolved our corporation and we checking into our hotel at the airport in San Jose. I would suggest using a checklist for all the requirements. Overall, we were very pleased with everything and we would use and recommend ABC in the future.

Karen and I were happy about the job that you did for us. We couldn’t think of any issues or problems that we disliked. We bought two properties via ABC in 2003 and their internationally diverse group was very helpful in understanding what was going on in Tamarindo and Guanacaste in general. They really know how things work and don’t work in this environment. Yet they were very professional about saying “We can’t answer that” when a question went outside their area of familiarity. There was no bluffing. I think ABC is a good agency both for home-seekers and developers.Then in 2011 we put ABC to the test with a very challenging real estate sale. We had moved out of Costa Rica and our remaining property was in a bad state – plus squatters had moved in. Jogi at ABC had some helpful suggestions about the squatters – a situation with no good remedy. We initially rejected a low offer and ABC then persevered and got us an offer we were happy with. With the squatters and other complications, it took an entire year and massive patience and negotiation to finally close the sale. Jogi was totally professional throughout, month after month. Many others would have just blown up, or given up in frustration. Jogi had to shepherd our deal for 12 months. If you are looking for a broker who is extremely knowledgeable–and honest about which situations have answers and which ones don’t, then definitely call ABC. I think ABC has an advantage in addressing European buyers – which is important these days. If you require a broker with great patience and maturity, who thinks through each situation carefully, or if the deal is complex, talk to Jogi.

I had a very positive experience in regards to my real estate transaction with ABC Real Estate. I was kept apprised of the status of our listing and was offered realistic feedback as to pricing, timing, and expectations.I appreciated the accessibility of our agent, Jogi. I bought a small parcel of land from ABC / Jogi in January of 2002. I did the transaction by fax / mail / email after I returned to the States. Jogi was very helpful and knowledgeable throughout my dealings with him and his company. I liked Jogi’s approach to showing land and dealing with clients. He is professional, and direct, and is up front about the specifics associated with purchasing land in Costa Rica. At no time did Jogi come across like he was “glossing over” important issues, or avoid questions that were hard to answer.
